Simply put, powder coating is a dry finishing process that can be used on a wide range of materials for both protective and decorative purposes.
Powder coating is made of a dry mix of resins, pigments, and fillers, which are mixed together in a uniform powder. It is applied using a process called electrostatic spray deposition (ESD). During this process, powder coating is inserted into a spray gun, where it is electrostatically charged. The electrostatically charged powder particles are sprayed onto the part that is being coated, which is then placed in an oven to cure.
The electrostatic charge keeps the powder coating in place during the curing process. When exposed to the heat of the oven, the powder coating undergoes a chemical reaction which creates an extremely durable finish.
